Natural Treatment for Leukemia Expand section

Leukemia is a type of blood cancer that affects blood cells, particularly white blood cells. In people with leukemia, the bone marrow produces an excessive amount of abnormal white blood cells that do not function properly.

It is divided into two types: Acute Leukemia and Chronic Leukemia.

Chemotherapy is the main form of treatment for leukemia, but it is also possible to treat some cases with targeted therapy or immunotherapy.

Our goal in integrative oncology is the treatment of side effects derived from chemotherapy, such as boosting the immune system, reducing fatigue and cumulative toxicity, as well as enhancing the antitumor effect of chemotherapy with supplements backed by scientific studies for the treatment of leukemia.

A recent clinical trial evaluated the effects of high-dose intravenous vitamin C administered in combination with chemotherapy in patients with leukemia.

Preliminary results indicate that vitamin C not only helped improve tolerance to chemotherapy but also promoted apoptosis of leukemic cells, while protecting normal cells from chemotherapy-induced oxidative damage.

Curcumin and Leukemia

Curcumin, the main active compound in turmeric, has been a central topic of research due to its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Several recent studies have shown that curcumin can be effective in the treatment of leukemia, especially as a complement to chemotherapy.

It has been found that curcumin can inhibit the proliferation of leukemic cells, induce apoptosis (programmed cell death), and improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy.

Resveratrol and Leukemia

Resveratrol, a polyphenol found in grapes, has been shown to have anticancer properties in leukemia, exhibiting effects that enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy treatments.

Recent studies show how resveratrol improves the effectiveness of chemotherapy by regulating autophagy, a cellular process that can help leukemic cells survive.

Resveratrol inhibited autophagy, which increased apoptosis (cell death) and reduced the proliferation of leukemic cells, thus enhancing the anticancer effects of conventional treatments.

Chinese herbs for Leukemia

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus) is a plant widely used in Chinese medicine to strengthen the immune system and improve the body's response to stress. Recently, its use in leukemia patients has been explored due to its immunity-boosting effects and anticancer properties.

Recent research has found that astragalus can increase the activity of immune cells, such as T lymphocytes and NK (natural killer) cells, which helps improve the immune response against leukemic cells.

Additionally, astragalus showed protective effects against chemotherapy toxicity.

Chinese herbal formulas help reduce anemia and improve the digestive side effects (nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea) of chemotherapy.
