Nutrition and Diet Therapy

nutrición y alimentación

Nutrition in the field of integrative medicine moves completely away from standardized diets or simple calorie counting. In our practice, we use diet as a high-precision therapeutic tool, designed to modulate inflammation, regulate hormones, and restore digestive functionality.

Depending on the clinical diagnosis, the pathology to be treated, and the physiological state of the patient, we structure our nutritional treatment based on two main therapeutic pillars: Energetic Diet Therapy and the Ketogenic Diet.

1. Energetic Diet: Balancing the Nervous and Digestive Systems

This first approach is based on the clinical principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its main objective is not restriction, but providing the necessary energy to the body to restore its self-regulatory capacity.

Nervous System Regulation

The energetic diet is designed to balance the autonomic nervous system, modulating the response between the sympathetic system (responsible for alert and stress phases) and the parasympathetic system (in charge of rest, repair, and digestion).

Digestive Optimization

By calming the nervous system and restoring the body's energy levels, we ensure the digestive system functions optimally, reducing mucosal inflammation and maximizing the actual absorption of nutrients.

Macronutrient Structure

This guideline respects the healthy physiological proportions between proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Fundamental to this approach is the exclusive use of slow-release (complex) carbohydrates, which prevent insulin spikes and provide sustained energy throughout the day.

Fasting-Free Guideline

Energetic diet therapy is strictly personalized according to the state of depletion or excess the patient presents. Given that its purpose is to deeply nourish and stabilize the system, this approach should not be combined with intermittent fasting, as the body requires a regular energy supply to rebuild its vitality without generating metabolic stress.

2. Ketogenic Diet: Advanced Metabolic Intervention

The second pillar of our nutritional approach is the ketogenic diet, a powerful clinical tool we reserve for specific pathologies that directly benefit from a drastic change in the body's energy-yielding pathway.

Mechanism of Action

By severely reducing carbohydrate intake, the metabolism transitions to using fatty acids and ketone bodies as its primary fuel. This state (nutritional ketosis) has been shown to have a strong anti-inflammatory impact, which is especially useful in certain chronic dermatological pathologies, severe hormonal imbalances, insulin resistance, and autoimmune diseases.

Synergy with Intermittent Fasting

Unlike the energetic approach, the ketogenic diet can indeed be combined with intermittent fasting protocols. This combination is used in a controlled manner when we seek to enhance the patient's metabolic flexibility, improve insulin sensitivity, or activate autophagy processes (cellular cleaning). The decision to integrate fasting or not will always depend on the specific pathology and the patient's clinical tolerance.

The success of our treatment lies not in forcing the patient to fit into a diet, but in choosing and personalizing the type of diet, adapting it to what their body needs to restore its health.
